Deep Well has grown into an agency providing food, temporary shelter, assistance with utility bills and other urgent needs. It is a staple in the community. Local business leaders quickly learned that when Miss Heinrich came into your office, she had something important to discuss and you were going to help to the best of your ability. Small in stature, she was a force to be reckoned with.
Miss Heinrich regularly drove those without cars to Beaufort to collect food stamps, was involved with Volunteers in Medicine and The Bargain Box and helped found the Island Rescue Squad. She was quick to recognize a problem and did not just tell you what she thought should be done, she rolled up her sleeves and got it done. She respected the community she lived in and earned the respect and love of the community she helped in so many ways.
